THE VEST WAS ACTUALLY INVENTED BY WAMS AND WAS WORN WITH JUSTAUCORPS.
The vest was only a piece of menswear in the past and has a straight-forward origin story. The vest was worn around 1675 as an undervest to a Justaucorps and emerged from the Wams. In the beginning it was mostly equipped with sleeves and became a knee-length lap waistcoat later. At the end of the century it ended up at the waist and almost always sleeveless. It belonged almost to the men’s suit.
